Reglement | Main rules
Bei der Olympiaquali geht es um die
Vergabe der den Nationen zustehenden Startplätze (nicht um
die persönliche Qualifikation, die ist dann Sache der
nationalen Verbände), und zwar insgesamt je 32 in den
Einzelrennen (maximal zwei pro Land) und je 8 in den Staffeln.
Jedes Land darf ein oder zwei Starter stellen. Die Nationen, die
nach einem Mehrkampf aus 1500, 500 und 1000 Meter Platzierte
unter den ersten 32 haben, bekommen die entsprechenden
Startplätze. Diese gelten bei Olympia auf allen drei Strecken,
dann anders als bei Quali personelle Veränderungen von Strecke
zu Strecke möglich sind.
This event is the fight for the 2002 Olympics qoutas for
nations (not for the now compeding skaters), there are 32
places for women and men and 8 places for female and male relay
teams. Every ISU member can take part with one or two skaters
per individual event which is an overall competition
of 1500 m,
500 m and 1000 m. Nation will have the quota according the top
32 overall ranked skaters. In difference there is no Overall
competition during the Olympics. The quotas are valid for all
the three distances, and skater's changes will be possible (inside
3 skaters).

Anmerkungen: RADANOWA trat im Viertelfinale nicht mehr
an, wohl, um sich für die Staffel zu schonen. Sehenswerte
Karambolage im Männer-Halbfinale mit RODIGARI und BEDARD =>
siehe Fotolinks (hier sieht es so aus als wäre RODIGARI der
Auslöser, aber BEDARD wurde disqualifiziert). Remarks:
RADANOWA did not start in the quarter (perhaps to save for the
relays). In Men's semi ther was a exciting crash with BEDARD,
RODIGARI => see photo links (on the pics it seems that
RODIGARI was the fall's reason, but BEDARD was disqualified).

repechages, qualified are USA (fixed), CHN, SKO, JAP, ITA
(winner heats), BEL, CAN, AUS (winner repechage).

Qualified for the games are USA (fixed), CHN, CAN, SKO,
ITA, JAP, GER (winner and runner-ups of heats), BUL (winner
repechage).
Anmerkungen: Weiß der Kuckuck warum die ISU den
Wettkampf nach den Qualifkationsrennen noch weiterführt: Keine
Preise, keine Punkte, keine weiteren Qualifikationen. Aber eine
Zumutung für die Staffeln: Bis zu viermal 5 km innerhalb vier
Stunden. Remarks: Nobody knows why the ISU continue this
competition after the qualifying races. No prize, no pints, no
further qualification. But an unreasonable demand for the teams:
up to four times 5k within four hours!
