Trials.
MONETTE unter Weltrekord. Der einstige
Junioren-Weltmeister Jean-Francois MONETTE meldet sich eindrucksvoll
in der Shorttrack-Szene zurück. Bei den kanadischen
Auswahl-Ausscheidungen unterbot der 22jährige aus Montreal in
2:14,772 über 1500 Meter den gültigen Weltrekord seines Landsmann
Andrew QUINN, der erst im Frühjahr bei den Candian Open in Calgary
2:15,49 gelaufen war. Die ISU könnte die Anerkennung als Weltrekord
jedoch verweigern, weil der Wettkampf nicht angemeldet war.
MONETTE faster than WR. Former world junior champion
Jean-Francois Monette of Montreal is making some noise again in short
track speedskating. The 22-year-old swept both races Saturday in
comeback style and went under world record time in the men's 1500
meters at the Canadian national team trials. Monette clocked 2:14.772
in the 1500-meter final. The time though won't be ratified because the
International Skating Union does not sanction the competition. Andrew
Quinn of Brampton, Ont., still holds the world mark at 2:15.49, set
last year at the Canadian Open in Calgary.

Bagger findet gestohlenes Olympiagold im Schlamm.
Zwei
Bauarbeiter aus Breda fanden bei Baggerarbeiten im Flußbett
der Clingeloop neun Medaillen, die dem Briten Wilfred O'REILY,
der als Trainer der niederländischen Shorttrack-Auswahl
arbeitet, vor einem halben Jahr bei einem Einbruch gestohlen
worden waren. Darunter sind offenbar eine olympische
Goldmesaille von 1988 und das WM-Gold von 1991. O'REILLY ist
zurzeit im Ausland, soll die Medaillen aber noch vor
Weihnachten zurückbekommen.
Dredger finds stolen Olympic Gold medal. Two
employees of 'Waterschap Mark en Weerijs' found nine medals
during dredging in the Clingeloop, a brook in Breda. The owner
of the medals is the Englishman Wilf O'REILLY, coach of the
Dutch Shorttrack Squad. The medals were stolen after a
burglary in O'Reillys house half a year ago. Among the medals
probably are a Calgary Olympic Gold Medal (1988) and a World
Champ's Medal (1991). O'REILLY is abroad at the moment. 'Waterschap
Mark en Weerij' hopes to handle the medals to O'Reilly before
Christmas.

in the 1500 semi-final today. He skated the final, but
according to Canadian Sport News will not skate Saturday or
Sunday. No indication what the injury might be, just that it's

gewesen war) wegen Behinderung disqualifiziert. Im Halbfinale
hatte die Nordkoranerin HUI Han Ryong überraschend Platz zwei
belegt. Sie hatte dann gewendet und war in die nachfolgenden
Läufer gefahren und diese behindert, sie wurde
disqualifiziert. CHOI Eun-Kyung (SKO), who led the race
until the final lap, was bumped to the protective walls from
behind by her compatriot PARK Hye-Rim before China's world
champion YANG
Yang A squeezed past to finish first in the 13.5-lap race
(inofficial 2:25.191).
However, YANG A
was dq. for impeding along with PARK (version reported by
Chinese agency Xinhua). In the semi surprising HUI Han Ryon (NKO)
finished second, but she was dq. (she spun around and knocked
over the entire pack of skaters, except for the leader, which
is why they advanced all of them). WC standing: 1. YANG Yang S (CHN) 91 Pkt.; 2.
PARK Hye-Rim (SKO) 90, 3. SUN 78.

spektakulären Sturz hatte Eric BEDARD in der letzten Runde
des 500-m-Halbfinales. An dritter Stelle liegend, ist er
offenbar auf eine Markierung gelaufen und wirbelte durch die
Luft in die Polster. Er wurde ziemlich durchgeschüttelt,
blieb aber unverletzt. OHNO

finished first, but dq. for bumping FENG. Bedard had a spectacular fall on the last lap of the
500m semi final. He was in third when he appeared to catch an

Staffel-Halbfinale Männer verletzte sich Richard GOERLITZ
(AUS) beim Start, nach seiner Ablösung liefen die anderen
drei die Staffel noch auf etwa 7:30 min, wurden aber
disqualifiziert, weil GOERLITZ keine ganze Runde absolviert
hatte. Wieder zurück nach seinem Banden-Crash vom
500-m-Finale in Nobeyama meldete sich Jonathan GUILMETTE, der
im Staffel-Halbfinale einen guten Eindruck hinterließ.
In the men's relay semi final Richard GOERLITZ (AUS) pulled
a groin muscle during the start of the relay semifinal, passed
off to a teammate and then stood in the middle and watched the
other three skate the entire relay themselves. They skated
around 7:30, but were disqualified because GOERLITZ had not
completed a whole lap before the first pass! Jonathan
GUILMETTE who crashed in the barrier in the Nobeyama 500 m
final race, is back and looked good in the relay.

will bei EM wieder fit sein | Radanova hopes to get in
shape till ECh Europameisterin Jewgenia RADANOWA (BUL), die sich beim Weltcup in Provo bei einem Sturz verletzt hatte, war als Zuschauerin beim Weltcup in Nobeyama. Sie trainiert wieder und hofft, bis zu den EM in Den Haag wieder in Form zu kommen. 500-m-Olympiasiegerin Annie PERREAULT (CAN) dagegen wird nach ihrem schweren Sturz in Nobeyama in dieser Saison voraussichtlich nicht mehr aufs Eis zurückkehren (mehr zu ihrerer Verletzung hier). In dem gleichen Massensturz hatte sich auch JOO Min-Jin (SKO) verletzt, über ihren Zustand ist nichts bekannt, in Changchun fehlte sie jedenfalls. Der Sturz von Staffel-Olympiasieger Jonathan GUILMETTE (CAN) im 500-m-Finale (Bild) sah gefährlicher aus als er war, schon zwei Tage später stand er wieder im Training und gehörte schon in Changchun zum kanadischen Staffelaufgebot. Injuries report: European Champion Jewgenia RADANOWA (BUL) who was heavy falled in Provo was back in the WC circuit in Nobeyama as a spectator. She is still back in training and she hopes to get in shape till the ECh mid January. 500 m Olympic Champion Annie PERREAULT (CAN) wouldn't race again this season after her grave injury from Nobeyama (more about here). In the same fall like PERREAULT JOO Min-Jin (SKO) was injured too, but we don't know some about her condition. In Changchun she do not participate. Olympic relay Champion Jonahan GUILMETTE (CAN) who crashed in the barrier in the 500 m final race of Nobeyama (image) is in better condition than it showed first. He began to train two days later and he is in the Canadian relay roster of the Changchun WC. |
